The Friends of St. Thomas a Becket Church, Huntington

 Jemima Phillips – Royal Harpist

The centre point of the Friends of St. Thomas a Becket Church, Huntington events, was the Mid-Summer Concert and Garden Party.  It took place on Saturday June 17th and over 75 people packed into the tiny church.

They came to see and hear the well known former official harpist to The Prince of Wales, Jemima Phillips, present her unique collection of music, much of which she has adapted herself for the harp.  But this harp was different.  After she played many beautiful classical pieces, the harp suddenly became an electric/acoustic harp.  She erupted into playing contemporary, jazz, rock, pop, hip-hop and music from the shows and Bollywood.  The side of her harp suddenly became a drum and people were jigging away to her beats.

It was extraordinary and the audience loved it, with long and loud applause.  She also explained about the workings of the harp and the audience warmed to her friendly and lively personality.

Afterwards, the whole party adjourned into the gardens of nearby Huntington Court, by kind permission of its owners.  A marquee was erected and an excellent party was held with free wine and most delicious canapés, provided by the ladies of the Friends organization.  With wonderful, warm weather, guests were able to meet Jemima as well as make friends with many new people, who had come from all over the county and beyond.
